The purpose of this paper is to examine different methods for organisation and retrieval of pop and Rock music recordings, and the problems concerned with this organisation. The focus is the question whether values towards pop and Rock music influence the organisation of music in major Swedish record collections. As a background for this discussion, the study also discusses how music is organised in these collections, and what kind of problems are associated with their organisation. Also included in the paper is a minor investigation of how problems with the organisation of pop and Rock music are dealt with in library and information science, and how values towards pop and Rock music are dealt with in society in general. The main focus of the study, however, is an empirical study of how values towards pop and Rock music manifest themselves in the pop and rock organisation of six Swedish institutions with major collections of music recordings.

Title: How do music students with different genre backgrounds perceive the same music? In this paper I report a study about how music students with different genre background perceive the same music. I let twentyone classical music upper secondary school pupils and twentyone Rock music upper secondary school pupils listen to ten short music pieces of different character and styles. While listening, they were asked to answer four questions about which instruments they could perceive, what they could tell about pulse, rhythm and beat in the music, which component they thought was the most important in the piece and what word they thought best described the feeling of the piece. All four questions had to be answered for each piece of music to facilitate analysis of differences connected to genre background in those answers.

Titel: Rockmusic preferences in the rock programme. Popular culture, music preferences and repertoire inside a teaching institution. This paper raises some questions about the popular music that exists outside as well as inside institutions. From the example of popular music and rockmusic the students of a music teacher education programme based on Rock music are asked for their taste for music in a brief questionnaire. The answers are compared to those concerning the music they used to like before they entered the education as well as the music played on the ensemble lessons at the programme.

Lately, more and more music festivals have emerged in Sweden. People?s desire and need to visit these events only seems to increase. Cultural tourism and music tourism has developed into a significant and important part of the experience industry and it employs more and more people within the tourism industry. The purpose of this paper is to investigate which effects this can have on the local community.

The purpose of this study is to give an insight in how music press is presented gender wise. The focus area lies in Rock music and the study is made on British music magazine MOJO in the year of 2010. The study contains quantitative analyses showing how much room men are given compared to women. The study is also supplemented with image analyses of four covers spread out over the year. The main question is formulated as in, how much room do women get in music magazine MOJO 2010 and what output does this have on Rock music?s gender characteristics? The main results show, amongst other things that 79% of all the articles are written with focus on one or more male musicians.

In this essay, I will treat the view of learning and musicianship among educated and uneducated musicians in improvised music. The survey is based on six different interviews with musicians in improvised music. In my inquiry, I have found that there are some differences between the two groups in their view of the subject..

Studien omfattar musikundervisningen i gymnasieskolan. Jag har använt mig av både kvantitativ och kvalitativ metoder i min studie. Den kvantitativa metoden var i form av enkätundersökningen och kvalitativa metoden i form av observationer men framförallt i form av definitioner, konceptioner och teoretiska konstruktioner. Resultatet visar att musicerandet har en stor betydelse för musikstuderande och rock- och popmusik har en hög status i undervisningen.

The aim of this paper is to examine how The Swedish Library Classification System, also known as the ?SAB-system?, has classified popular music. The investigation is limited to the classification category of ?Yx Jazz, Rock and Popular Music? within the SAB-system. The development of this category is studied.

The purpose of this Master's thesis is to determine which of the three general classification schemes, DDC, SAB, and UDC is the most appropriate for classifying music documents. This is done by analysing and classifying 60 music documents such as recordings, scores and books about music. The codes resulting from the classification are analysed according to a number of evaluation criteria based on classification theory. The criteria focus on the systems specificity, exhaustivity, exclusivity, helpful sequence, hospitality, notation and that related classes are kept together. The study showed that the systems specificity in classification was of great importance in classifying music documents because of the diversity of music genres.

The objective of this qualitative study was to contribute to the understanding of how musical activities affect the participants' well-being and empowerment and to investigate which fac-tors contribute to that effect. Invitations were sent to 13 adult participants in a Rock music school in the middle part of Sweden. 7 persons (4 men, 3 women) participated in the study. 4 themes were discussed in focus groups to highlight how informants were affected by the ac-tivity and what factors were important in the context. Results showed that music activities impact on participants' well-being and empowerment through several factors.Themes that appeared were: 1) focus on the present through music, 2) personal development, 3) meaningful leisure activity 4) the group properties.

One of the teachersI?ve interviewed had bad music experiences and didnot use music in her teaching.

Since my experience is that teachers in singing hardly ever talk about when to sing a tone, I have chosen to examine this fact through interviews and earlier research in this matter. The interviewed singing teachers belong to different genres (classical music, pop/rock, jazz and folk music). I asked them to share their thoughts about the word timing, when it comes to music. I also wanted to know if they have any methods when it comes to teaching students to improve their timing. Further on, I have been discussing the results and the literature in order to make clear in what way singing teachers give priority to when a tone is being sung.
